Jiffy: Substrate for cuttings or seeds

0,05  - 0,15  VAT included

The Jiffys for germination and cuttings are compressed peat discs that, when moistened, hydrate and increase in size, becoming a bag of spongy substrate ideal for plants in the process of taking root, such as seeds or cuttings.

The cloth bag that surrounds the Jiffy is biodegradable so you can put it whole in the ground.

Over time it will decompose without hindering root development.

The jiffy is a disk of compressed peat.

When hydrated, the disk swells and becomes a cloth sack with peat inside.

When we plant the seeds with the Jiffy in the ground, little by little it will dissolve until it disappears.

It is biodegradable and breaks down into substrates over time.

How are Jiffys used?

  1. Fill a container with water at pH 5.8 (you can add a root stimulator)
  2. Submerge the discs in the water and wait for them to fully hydrate.
  3. Squeeze each disk to drain off excess water. It has to be moist but not waterlogged.
  4. With your fingers squeeze the disk gently so that the soil is loose and the Jiffy has a round shape.
  5. You can now insert the seeds or cuttings.

Growlet tip:

– Put the jiffy in hot water to hydrate it more quickly.
– You will have better results if you use a scalpel to cut the cuttings, if you dip them in root hormones and keep them in a cutting holder.

If you need more information on how to germinate some seeds, see this article.
