CO2 above 31,1º C and 1071 psi is considered supercritical.

El Supercritical CO2 It is widely used as a solvent because the increase in pressure and temperature of supercritical CO2 changes the density, surface tension and viscosity of CO2.

Light compounds in the herb such as terpenes (responsible for flavor and aroma) start to come out at lower pressures and temperatures.

They start to dissolve easily at around 1500 psi and 43º C.

Frequently Asked Questions extractor de resin with Supercritical CO2 The Super C from OCO Labs:

Q: What do I need to get started?
A: In addition to the SuperC, you will need a CO2 bottle. You will also need to buy a lubricant. We recommend coconut oil.

Q: How long does it take?
A: Most extractions take about an hour and a half for each 30g tube.

Q: Where do you get CO2 from?
A: CO2 is available in most cities. It is used with soft drink dispensers and beer taps throughout the world. Ask the local restaurant where they are located.

Q: How much CO2 do you spend on each extraction?
A: A one hour extraction uses around 500 gr. of liquid CO2.

Q: What percentage of extract can I expect?
A: This will vary depending on the source material and the application. In some cases, CO2 will extract less total oil as a percentage than other solvents. Most material with a high oil or resin content will produce a yield of 15% or more.

Q: What should I do to treat the extract afterwards?
A: In most cases nothing at all. Some secondary processing may be used depending on the end product you want. If you want to remove the waxes, an ethanol bath may be necessary. Others can remove bound water using a vacuum chamber.

Q: How long has the extractor been on the market, is it proven?
A: Available since April 2014, there are more than 400 SuperC extractors in 10 countries.

Q: Does the SuperC require maintenance?

A: Yes. The user performs regular maintenance. In addition to regular lubrication, eventually the O-rings need to be replaced. Videos showing how this is done can be found on our Support page.
